The Alleged Incident

Superstar singer accused of vicious tequila bottle assault on music producer in 2023

R&B icon Chris Brown has been arrested in the UK following an alleged nightclub attack in London dating back to 2023.

The 36-year-old American artist was detained by Metropolitan Police at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester in the early hours of May 15, 2025. The arrest stems from an incident where music producer Abe Diaw claims he was assaulted by Brown with a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle at Tape Nightclub in Mayfair, London, on February 19, 2023.

According to reports, the alleged assault left Diaw with serious injuries requiring hospital treatment. It’s claimed Brown struck him repeatedly with the bottle and continued the attack with kicks and punches while he was on the ground.

Legal Proceedings

The Metropolitan Police confirmed Brown was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

The Grammy-winning singer is set to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16, where formal proceedings will begin.

Brown, best known for hits like Run It! and No Guidance, had been in the UK preparing for his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour — a high-profile celebration marking 20 years since his debut. The European leg was due to kick off in Amsterdam on June 8, with stops scheduled in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, and Glasgow.

Impact on Upcoming Tour

Now, fans are questioning whether the UK dates will go ahead.

This latest incident adds to Brown’s long list of legal troubles. He made global headlines in 2009 after pleading guilty to felony assault against then-girlfriend Rihanna. He’s also faced multiple accusations over the years. including a restraining order filed by actress Karrueche Tran in 2017 and a $50 million lawsuit from four concertgoers following a brawl during his “11:11” tour stop in Texas in 2024 (Entertainment Weekly).

Brown’s team has yet to make an official statement regarding the new charges. Sources close to the star say he plans to contest the allegations.

Meanwhile, Tape London has refrained from commenting on the incident, citing an ongoing police investigation.

Abe Diaw, who claims to have been a longtime collaborator of Brown, told authorities the assault was “completely unprovoked” and has had lasting consequences on his health and career. “This has derailed my entire life,” he reportedly stated.

As of now, Brown remains in custody pending his court appearance.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
